The Pet Health Certificate Process
The health certificate process begins with a thorough wellness exam. Our veterinarians will examine your pet from nose to tail and perform lab work to determine if your pet is healthy. We will also assess your pet’s vaccine records to ensure they are current. If they need vaccinations, we will administer them during the exam.
Domestic health certificates must be written on the same day of the exam and cannot be back-dated.
Requirements for Pet Health Certificates
For domestic travel, most pets must be at least eight weeks of age, but in some cases, they must be older. Check with your airline or travel agency on their rules regarding pet vaccinations and age requirements.
Typical requirements for pets traveling to other states include an up-to-date rabies vaccination and a negative heartworm test or a current heartworm preventative. Requirements vary from state to state.
If you plan to travel internationally with your pet, you must start the process as soon as possible.
The health certificate process can take a few weeks to many months, depending on the requirements of your destination country.
